Program Pemberdayaan Kesehatan Masyarakat Melalui Edukasi Dan Pendampingan Penggunaan Antibiotik Yang Rasional Untuk Ibu Dan Anak Di Kecamatan Kampung Bugis Kab. Berau

Abstract

This community service program was carried out at Posyandu Tunas Bangsa, Kampung Bugis District, Berau Regency, focusing on education and assistance regarding the rational use of antibiotics for housewives and posyandu cadres. The main issue in the community was the frequent use of antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription and the lack of understanding of the differences between bacterial and viral infections, which increases the risk of antimicrobial resistance and threatens maternal and child health. The program adopted a participatory approach involving coordination with the health center, cadre training, face-to-face counseling, simulations on reading medicine labels, leaflet distribution, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results demonstrated significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, with average scores rising from 2.0 to 5.0, and 76% of participants achieving an increase of ≥3 points. The outputs included educational modules, informative leaflets, scientific articles, and trained cadres acting as change agents. This program effectively enhanced community health literacy regarding the wise use of antibiotics, reduced the risk of resistance, encouraged healthier behavior at the family level, and contributed to sustainable improvements in maternal and child health quality.
